Born: June 1, 1926, 9:30 AM local time, Los Angeles, California, USA. Source: Astro-Databank, Rodden rating AA.

The AA rating means the birth time comes from a reliable, verified record, so the rising sign, the Midheaven and the houses below hold up at face value. Open Marilyn Monroe's chart on Astrolas and follow the wheel while reading.

One shape runs through the whole chart. Six of the ten planets group into three conjunct pairs, and each pair shares both a sign and a house: the Sun with Mercury in dGemini, in the 10th house of career; the Moon with Jupiter in xAquarius, in the 7th house of partnership; Mars with Uranus in cPisces, in the 8th house of shared intensity. Three pairs, three houses, with the rest of the chart arranged around them.

Sun conjunct Mercury in Gemini, in the 10th house

The Sun sits at 10ยฐ27' Gemini, and Mercury sits close by at 6ยฐ47' Gemini, both in the 10th house. The two form a conjunction with an orb of 3ยฐ40'.

The library's Sun in Gemini reads as sharp, curious and quick to adapt, suited to work that calls for "creativity, communication, and flexibility," pointing straight at "journalism, media, travel, teaching, writing, or creative business" as natural fields. Mercury in Gemini goes further, describing a mind that works "like a vast data repository" and calling the placement "one of the strongest placements for linguistic and expressive abilities," fit for someone who becomes "a speaker, writer, or even a media figure with influence."

In the 10th house, the Sun reads as a pull toward "fame and widespread recognition," and Mercury reads as a career built on "knowledge and excellent communication skills," one that does especially well "in fields such as writing or media." The conjunction itself brings "a lucid mind" and "a talent for speaking, writing, and a powerful determination to achieve your goals," alongside a caution about thoughts that "often originate from the ego" and a reminder "to learn to listen and to care about others' perspectives."

Marilyn Monroe built a film career on exactly that kind of screen presence, through comedies such as "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953) and "Some Like It Hot" (1959).

Moon conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius, in the 7th house

The Moon sits at 19ยฐ06' Aquarius, and Jupiter sits at 26ยฐ50' Aquarius, both in the 7th house of partnership. The two form a conjunction with an orb of 7ยฐ44', the widest of the three pairs but still inside the chart's short list of major aspects.

The library's Moon in Aquarius reads as rational and humanitarian at once, "clear intellect, sharpness, and a humanitarian heart," interested in many fields "from science and philosophy to art" and drawn to "what is new and unique." Jupiter in Aquarius adds "strong social magnetism" and ties luck to "connections or unexpected opportunities," with a pull toward work that carries "meaning and lasting value" rather than money alone.

In the 7th house, Jupiter reads as success that arrives "through marriage or cooperative relationships," backed by an "optimistic mindset and fairness," with a caution against "trusting people too much or being excessively generous." The conjunction between the two makes for someone "warm, optimistic, thoughtful, and full of compassion," able to "win others' affection from the first meeting," a trait the library calls "well suited to work involving the public."

In 1954, Monroe traveled to Korea and performed for thousands of US troops over several days, one of the clearest public records of that same pull toward crowds and goodwill.

Mars and Uranus in Pisces, in the 8th house

Mars sits at 20ยฐ44' and Uranus at 29ยฐ00', both in Pisces, both in the 8th house. The two aren't aspected to each other in this chart, but the sign and house line up exactly.

The library's Mars in Pisces blends action with feeling, naming "a rich imagination and artistic creativity" in "literature, music, or art" as a key strength, alongside a compassion that often means "investing considerable energy in helping others." In the 8th house, the same Mars turns toward money shared with others, with the library noting a gift for "extremely sharp investment and negotiation decisions," next to a caution about "impulsiveness in spending."

Uranus in Pisces is generational, but the house placement makes it personal. The library reads it as "a profound ability to understand human emotions," reaching "unconscious layers" through "artistic creativity, music, or healing-related work." In the 8th house, it adds a habit of holding "a different view of life and death" and being "drawn to the occult or unconventional romantic experiences."

Monroe spent time studying at the Actors Studio in New York, pushing to be taken seriously as a dramatic actress beyond the comic roles that had made her famous.

Saturn retrograde in Scorpio, in the 4th house

Saturn sits at 21ยฐ26' kScorpio, retrograde, in the 4th house.

The library's Saturn in Scorpio grants "enduring resilience, exceptional concentration, and a rare steadfast will," along with "a special sensitivity in grasping human motives and psychology." It also names a capacity "to regenerate after periods of crisis," able to "overcome loss, illness, or major shocks to grow stronger and more resilient."

Retrograde, in the 4th house, the library reads a childhood that "may not have been peaceful and easy," leaving "a sense of needing to be self-reliant from an early age," shaped by "responsibility, discipline, and the ability to build systems for life." It ties the placement to "a strong desire for a safe and stable home that you build yourself," and names owning a home as "an important priority and a symbol of the status and stability you strive to achieve."

Monroe's early years included time in foster homes and an orphanage, before a modeling career in her late teens led to film work.

Neptune in Leo, close to the rising sign

Neptune sits at 22ยฐ13' Leo, in the 1st house. The Ascendant is Leo too, at 13ยฐ04', though the two sit roughly nine degrees apart and don't count as a conjunction in this chart.

The library's Neptune in Leo carries "a powerful energy to shine and lead," often paired with "leadership qualities, courage, and great ambition." It warns of a challenge tied to the ego, "prone to self-deception," and calls for humility to balance "personal radiance" against the common good. The library also ties the placement to its own moment in history: when Neptune transited Leo, "the world witnessed a boom in entertainment industries such as cinema and broadcasting."

In the 1st house, the same Neptune reads as deep compassion and an adaptability the library describes as blending into any environment like a chameleon, with an appeal that comes from "gentle charm and a deep capacity for empathy."

The Astrolas library has no entry yet for Leo rising on its own, so this piece will not build a reading on the Ascendant by itself.

Pluto in Cancer, in the 11th house

Pluto sits at 13ยฐ23' fCancer, in the 11th house.

Pluto in Cancer is generational, tied by the library to a cohort born between 1912 and 1938, shaped by the lead-up to the Second World War and the Great Depression, years when "traditional values regarding home, land, and familiar ways of life" came under heavy strain. On a personal level, the library reads it as "intense emotions, vivid imagination, and a deep desire for family connection," with "a strong need for security and a sense of belonging."

In the 11th house, the same Pluto reads as influence carried through groups: a "powerful influence" and a tendency to act as "a reformer who always wants to improve everything within groups or organizations," with a warning to watch the ego so it doesn't cause "ruptures in friendships."

In 1955, Monroe started her own production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, one of the first times a Hollywood actress had taken that kind of control over her own work.

What the chart adds up to

The chart doesn't explain a film career or the image that outlived it. What it lays out is a pattern: three pairs of planets, each sharing both a sign and a house, spread across career, partnership and shared intensity. A performer's Sun paired with a quick Mercury, a warm Moon paired with a lucky Jupiter, and underneath both, a Mars and Uranus built for depth rather than ease. She died in 1962.
