Seven of John Lennon's ten planets sit inside just two signs. Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, all retrograde, sit together in sTaurus. The Sun and Mars sit in Libra, with Venus and Neptune a few signs over in Virgo. Between the two clusters, nearly the whole chart runs through money, persistence and daily work on one side, and charm, idealism and service on the other.
First, the birth time. Astro-Databank rates it DD, short for "dirty data": sources disagree on the time and none has been confirmed. The date isn't in doubt, so the planets' signs and the aspects between them hold up. The rising sign, the Midheaven and the houses don't, since they move through a whole sign in about two hours. Anything below that depends on the recorded 6:30 PM is marked as conditional.
Lennon co-founded The Beatles in Liverpool, and with Paul McCartney formed one of the most famous songwriting partnerships in popular music. After the group split in 1970 he recorded Imagine (1971), whose title track became an anthem for the anti-war movement. In 1969 he married the artist Yoko Ono, and the two spent much of that year campaigning publicly for peace, including the song "Give Peace a Chance." He had two sons, Julian and Sean, and spent much of the late 1970s away from public life raising Sean before returning with the 1980 album Double Fantasy. He was shot and killed in New York City later that year.
Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus in Taurus, retrograde
Jupiter sits at 13ยฐ42', Saturn at 13ยฐ13' and Uranus at 25ยฐ33', all in Taurus, all retrograde.
The library's Taurus Jupiter draws wealth and stability naturally, with a refined eye for beauty and a liking for anything lasting over anything fleeting. Saturn in Taurus is persistent almost to the point of stubbornness, driven by a need for material and emotional security, building wealth slowly through hard work rather than luck. Uranus in Taurus turns ideas into solid, tangible results, often tied to real financial fortune, through practical planning rather than sudden leaps.
Jupiter and Saturn are also conjunct, at an orb of 0ยฐ29'. The library reads this pairing as idealism running into real obstacles, with persistence as the only way through, and success in money and career that comes slowly but lasts. Uranus also trines Neptune, at the same orb, 0ยฐ29', though the library has no text for that pairing yet.
If the recorded time holds, all three land in the 1st house, the house of self and identity. Retrograde in this house, the library reads all three as quieter and more inward than their signs alone suggest: ambition and generosity held close rather than shown off, discipline that comes from inside rather than from outside pressure, and a distinctive, independent streak kept hidden until it feels safe to show.
Lennon's own account of himself leaned the same way: a famously sharp public wit sitting over a private man who, by his own description, spent much of the late 1970s almost entirely out of the public eye, raising his younger son at home.
Sun and Mars in Libra, Venus and Neptune in Virgo
The Sun sits at 16ยฐ16' and Mars at 2ยฐ40', both in jLibra. Venus sits at 3ยฐ13' and Neptune at 26ยฐ02', both in hVirgo.
The library's Libra Sun seeks harmony and fairness, charming and diplomatic, though prone to hesitation and to losing itself trying to please everyone. Mars in Libra puts its energy into relationships and balance rather than open confrontation, with real aesthetic sense and a dislike of injustice. Venus in Virgo is selective and cautious in love, slow to open up, but loyal and genuinely caring once committed, with a perfectionist streak that needs watching. Neptune in Virgo, generational by sign, carries an instinct to serve and improve the world, and the library ties it historically to new healing methods and to the era's civil rights, feminist and environmental movements.
If the recorded time holds, all four land in the 6th house of daily work. The library reads the Libra Sun here as someone who defines himself through work and expects real recognition for it, prone to worry and in need of built-in rest. Mars in this house works fast and with real initiative, best when it finishes what it starts. Venus here needs a pleasant, cooperative workplace to feel settled. Neptune becomes personal through this house as a need for a gentle, harmonious environment and a pull toward quiet, intuition-led service.
The civil rights and peace-movement thread the library ties to Neptune in Virgo runs straight through Lennon's own activism: the 1969 Bed-Ins for Peace with Yoko Ono, and "Give Peace a Chance," written and recorded that same year.
Mercury in Scorpio
Mercury sits at 8ยฐ33' kScorpio.
The library's Scorpio Mercury isn't satisfied with surface answers. It needs to dig underneath whatever it's looking at, and it speaks only once it has something it considers worth saying. It can be stubborn, rarely swayed by argument unless it chooses to change its own mind, and it suits independent work more than teamwork.
If the recorded time holds, Mercury lands in the 7th house of partnership. The library reads communication here as the foundation of any close bond, needing an intelligent, lively partner to trade ideas with, and it credits this placement with real negotiating skill suited to legal or media work. Its caution is arguing too much, or talking more than listening, with the people closest to him.
Lennon's lyrics, especially after the Beatles, leaned hard into that kind of digging, turning inward on songs like "Mother" and "God." His second marriage, to a fellow artist with whom he made music and public statements jointly for over a decade, matched the kind of demanding, idea-trading partnership this placement looks for.
Moon in Aquarius
The Moon sits at 3ยฐ33' xAquarius.
The library's Aquarius Moon processes feeling through intellect, staying calmer with a little distance, drawn more to humanitarian and community causes than to any single relationship. It values friendship highly, sometimes above romance, and it welcomes people from every background into its circle.
If the recorded time holds, the Moon lands in the 11th house of friends, groups and causes. The library reads close friends here as a kind of chosen family, often inside organizations where this placement tends to lead.
The Beatles themselves were exactly that kind of chosen family and working group, before Lennon's activism widened the circle again, into campaigns and causes built with people well outside the band.
Pluto in Leo, house 5
Pluto sits at 4ยฐ11' gLeo.
Pluto in Leo by sign belongs to a generation, roughly 1937 to 1957, shaped by the Second World War, the start of the nuclear age and the rise of mass celebrity. The library reads it as a generation whose greatest transformative power lies in the ability to transform itself, channeled toward ambition and a lasting personal signature when used well.
If the recorded time holds, Pluto lands in the 5th house of creativity and children. The library ties it here to intense, protective love, poured into personal projects and especially into children, with a caution against holding on too tightly.
Lennon's career ran through more reinvention than most: a mop-topped pop group, a psychedelic turn, a raw, confessional solo sound, years away from recording to raise his son Sean, and a final album, Double Fantasy, built around his marriage and his family. Each version of it looked almost nothing like the one before.
Aries rising, and the angles
The Ascendant sits at 19ยฐ54' Aries, the Descendant at 19ยฐ54' Libra, the Midheaven at 7ยฐ08' Capricorn and the IC at 7ยฐ08' Cancer, all of it resting on the unconfirmed 6:30 PM time.
The Astrolas library has no entries yet for Aries rising, a Libra Descendant, a Capricorn Midheaven or a Cancer IC. Several of the tightest aspects in the whole chart involve the angles too: the Sun opposite the Ascendant (3ยฐ38'), Venus trine the Midheaven (3ยฐ55') and Mercury sextile the Midheaven (1ยฐ26'), none of them in the library yet. With a DD rating, all of it, the signs on the angles and the aspects touching them, stays unconfirmed until a better record turns up.
Two tight aspects away from the angles are worth a mention without a reading: the Moon opposite Pluto, at just 0ยฐ38', and the Moon trine Mars, at 0ยฐ53'. The library has no text for either yet.
What the chart adds up to
The confirmed part of this chart, the planets and the signs they sit in, points to someone built from contradiction: a Taurus, retrograde core that wanted security and worked for it quietly, next to a Libra-Virgo cluster built around charm, service and an urge to fix what felt wrong with the world. The Beatles and the peace campaigns both came out of the same chart.
