How to use the Astrolas Annual Profections tool: find your house and lord of the year

Annual profections are one of the oldest timing methods in astrology and one of the simplest. At birth the year is set on your first house. Each birthday the focus moves forward one whole sign house, so at age 1 it is on the second house, at 12 it is back on the first, and so on. The planet that rules the sign of the year becomes your Lord of the Year, and whatever it touches gets louder for twelve months.

The Astrolas Annual Profections tool works all of that out for any year, then adds the natal condition of the Lord of the Year, its aspects, the transits that hit the activated sign, and a full table from age 0 to 100. What the tool does

From your birth chart and the year you choose, the tool finds:

• Your age and the influence period, which runs from one birthday to the day before the next.
• The activated house and its sign, counted in whole sign houses from your Ascendant.
• The Lord of the Year (shown as LOTY) and its natal sign, degree and house.
• How strong or weak that planet is in your chart, its natal aspects, and its contacts with natal midpoints.
• Slow planets moving through the activated sign that year, and the notable transits to your chart.

It also shows the current Zodiacal Releasing periods from the Lot of Spirit and Lot of Fortune, which is a separate Hellenistic timing method that pairs well with profections.

What you need before you start

• Birth date, time and place. Profections run on your Ascendant sign, so your birth time needs to be good enough to know which sign was rising. If your Ascendant is at the very start or end of a sign, double check it. See why birth time matters.
• The year you want to read.

Step by step: filling in the form

Open the Annual Profections tool. Before you enter anything, the page tells you to enter birth data and pick a year. Fill in:

1. Name, any label.
2. Day, Month, Year of birth.
3. Hour / Minute, or Unknown Time if you have none. Without a time the Ascendant sign is a guess, so the whole result is a guess.
4. City / Location, chosen from the suggestions.
5. Year to look up, the calendar year in which the birthday you care about falls.

Press Update. The heading reads "Annual Profections" with the year and your age, for example "Annual Profections 2026 · Age 36", and just below it the influence period with exact dates.

The result, section by section

Zodiacal Releasing. Two columns, Lot of Spirit and Lot of Fortune, each showing the current major period sign and ruler with dates, the sub period (L2) underneath, and a Peak Period marker when one applies. If this is new to you, zodiacal releasing introduction is a short primer.

Year detail. This is the heart of the page.

• Activated house: the sign and the focus areas of that house.
• Bodies in the activated sign: any natal planets or points in that sign. These are switched on for the year as well.
• Lord of the Year (LOTY): the ruling planet, its natal sign and degree, its natal house, and the themes of that house. Two short lines explain what that planet as lord means and what its house placement brings.
• LOTY natal condition: badges for its dignity (for example peregrine), whether it is in sect, whether it sees the house it rules or is in aversion, and whether it sits in an angular, succedent or cadent house.
• Natal aspects of the Lord of the Year, with orbs and a Show descriptions toggle.
• Lord of the Year aspects to natal midpoints, with short keyword lines.
• Projected events for the combination of activated house and lord.

Slow planets transiting the activated house. Dates when the slow planets enter or leave the sign of the year, with a short note on each.

Notable transit aspects this year. A dated list with an influence period for each hit, a Filter by aspect control and a Show minor bodies switch. Many entries carry a description with a core principle and common manifestations.

How to read the result

1. Name the house. The activated house is the stage for the year. A first house year is about you, your body and fresh starts; a tenth house year is about work and reputation. The twelve houses explained has the full list.
2. Find the lord and where it lives. The Lord of the Year carries the topic of the activated house into the house it occupies in your natal chart. A seventh house year whose lord sits in your tenth ties partnership to career.
3. Judge its condition. A lord that is dignified, in sect and able to see its house tends to deliver more easily. One that is in aversion or out of sect often means more effort or detours. Day and night charts and sect and essential dignities explain those badges.
4. Watch the lord's transits. When the Lord of the Year is triggered by transit, or makes its own transits, the year's theme tends to surface. The transit list helps you spot those dates.
5. Check the slow planets. A slow planet entering the sign of the year adds weight to it.

Tips

• Look back first. Use the age table to find a year you remember clearly, run that year, and see how its house and lord fit what happened.
• Run next year a month or two before your birthday so you know which planet to watch.

Questions people ask

Why is my year on the first house again at 36?

The count repeats every twelve years. Ages 0, 12, 24, 36, 48 and so on all activate the first house, which is why those birthdays often feel like fresh starts.

When does a profection year begin?

On your birthday, not on January 1st. The influence period on the page gives the exact dates.

What if a house has no planets in it?

That is fine. The lord of the sign still runs the year, and the empty house is still the topic. Planets in the sign simply add more voices.
